چکیده

We search for radio counterparts to two recentlydetected strong X-ray sources associated with highly embedded young stellar objects (SVS4/EC 95 and SVS16). We detect a radio source (S68-2) consistent with the position of EC95. We fail to detect a counterpart for SVS16, and place upper limits on its quiescent radio brightness. For S68-2, we show that the radio source has a falling spectrum, suggestive of a gyrosynchrotron emission mechanism, and that it is variable on a timescale of years. We search for, but do not detect, evidence for flaring activity on timescales of minutes to hours. We also search for, but do not detect, circular polarisation. We derive the radio luminosity and compare the object to an empirical X-ray – radio luminosity relationship established for dMe stars. We find that the object is consistent with the dwarfs relation, but is unusually X-ray rich compared to other high-luminosity coronal sources. By comparing the objects to a sample of active galactic nuclei in the LX–LR diagram, we rule out the possibility that either object is a background AGN. We discuss the ways in which a normal stellar coronal model might be modified to explain the strong, X-ray rich characteristics of the source, which appears to be the most extreme stellar corona yet found.

The Chandra Deep Field North Survey. Xii. the Link between Faint X-ray and Radio Source Populations

We investigate the relationship between faint X-ray and 1.4 GHz radio source populations detected within 3 of the Hubble Deep Field North using the 1 Ms Chandra and 40 μJy VLA surveys. Within this region, we find that ≈42% of the 62 X-ray sources have radio counterparts and ≈71% of the 28 radio sources have X-ray counterparts; thus a 40 μJy VLA survey at 1.4 GHz appears to be well-matched to a ...

Using SKA to observe relativistic jets from X-ray binary systems

I briefly outline our current observational understanding of the relativistic jets observed from X-ray binary systems, and how their study may shed light on analogous phenomena in Active Galactic Nuclei and Gamma Ray Bursts. How SKA may impact on this field is sketched, including the routine tracking of relativistic ejections to large distances from the binaries, detecting and monitoring the ra...

The X-ray Spectral Properties and Variability of Luminous High-redshift Active Galactic Nuclei

We perform a detailed investigation of moderate-to-high quality X-ray spectra of ten of the most luminous active galactic nuclei (AGNs) known at z > 4 (up to z ∼ 6.28). This study includes five new XMM-Newton observations and five archived X-ray observations (four by XMM-Newton and one by Chandra). We find that the X-ray power-law photon indices of our sample, composed of eight radio-quiet sour...

XMM – Newton and ESO observations of the two Unidentified γ – ray Sources 3 EG J 0616 − 3310 and 3 EG J 1249 − 8330 ⋆

The limited angular resolution of γ–ray telescopes prevents a direct identification of the majority of sources detected so far. This is particularly true for the low latitude, probably galactic, ones only 10 % of which has been identified. Most counterparts of the identified low–latitude γ–ray sources are Isolated Neutron Stars (INS), both radio–loud and radio– quiet (Geminga–like) objects, whi...

We review some aspects of radio continuum polarimetric imaging of high redshift radio galaxies. The correlation between extreme values of Faraday rotation observed toward radio emitting structures in nearby radio galaxies, and X-ray emitting cluster atmospheres, is presented as a method for targeting objects at high redshift for deep X-ray searches. We present an X-ray detection of the extreme ...
